Another shining morning in the golden desert. The people of Abul awoke to the glittering sunrise that greeted them warmly every morning, ensuring that the cold of night was swept away so that those who might seek their fortune would not freeze while peddling their wares in the market place. The king sat upon his throne and his children went off to school and his queen set about speaking to the people whom inhabited their city. From the windows of the palace the blacksmith’s hammer could be heard ringing away as a bell in a church house might ring first thing in the morning. It was another day, another boring day where nothing big would happen. No monsters would attack the city, no elderly people would seek aid of someone strong and young, and no children would be looking for a hero to look up to. Everyone was busy with their lives, living them as normally as they should.
Most people would consider this to be good news and a sign of prosperity for that was indeed what it was. However, there was one individual whom found it dull. Without a need for a hero, she had nothing to do. The woman had long sense found herself requiring a break from the task of renovating the old shrine in Abul, her progress having been erased by some strange phenomenon that was only explainable as a prank no one would own up to. She still had the plans, she had made some further progress, and much more quickly, by following her well kept records. In short, there was nothing else to do and she was in a rut.
Enzeru sighed as she shifted her head to lead on her hand, her elbow propped on the table and a chart unrolled in the other. She dreamed of exploration and discovery, adventure and danger. However, there was none to be found here. She knew that the progress she made would soon be halted by a need for specialized equipment only found in West City. This could be the only break she would get to go on an adventure until after she completed the work there. She wondered if Krillin would want to come with her or if he would want to stay behind and keep an eye on things here. It was always a bit scary for Enzeru to leave behind her home town. She never knew if something might attack while she was away, like when she took off to planet Vegeta for a while. There were a great number of threats facing her home upon her return. Being the great fighter she was, they were vanquished within a short period of time.
She was a great fighter at one time. Now, she was not quite so sure of her own abilities. Having fallen a bit out of practice between domestic duties and her duty to her homeland, her once devastating ki blasts were nothing more than a mere annoyance for some fighters. Her physical attacks, which were never up to par, were no where near as polished as they used to be. She needed to go on an adventure if for no further reason than to return her to her original power. Certainly they would understand her leaving like this.
Her phone rang and continued to do so for a moment before she answered it dully.
“Hello?”
“Enzeru, are you sick or something? You sound like you got your ass kicked.”
“Hey Lisa. I haven’t had a fight since the tournament, that’s the problem.”
“Ah, well, you could always come help me keep these guys in line. We got a couple new idiots that don’t know a shovel from shit.”
“That’s pretty bad.”
“Damn right, it is. And I have to keep an eye on them constantly or something gets broken or some strange woman ends up in camp or someone gets hurt. They’re always in some kind of trouble.”
“Sounds like you have your hands full.”
Enzeru laughed. At least Lisa was having a good time. If there was one thing about her old business partner that anyone needed to know, it was that if she was complaining, she was happy.
“Yeah, well, you sound bored. Come take one of these young fools off my hands, I can’t baby sit them both all the time.”
“Have big Henry look out for them, he’ll keep them in line.”
“Big Henry just became a father so he’s on leave.”
“Ah, send him my congratulations. I’m going to be in West City for a few days, I think. I need a break from boredom. Could you keep an eye on things out here while I’m gone?”
“Yeah, I will. I’ll call if anything crazy happens.”
“Thanks, Lisa. I’ll talk to you later, there’s packing to do.”
“Bye Enz, you take care of yourself.”
The two women hung up the phone. Enzeru stood and made her way upstairs slowly. She was going to do this because it would be good for her. Lisa said herself that she would call if anything crazy happened. Everyone knew that Enzeru was the only person in the desert they could call to deal with rare and unusual happenings. Such as a Basilisk terrorizing the Abul palace courtyard or some guard turning rogue and becoming a bandit after getting rabies. It was weird things like that she thrived off of. Without that happening, she had nothing but that one job that would soon have to come to a halt anyway. She could not rightfully ask Krillin to give up his hobbies or his job to spend more time with her. It wouldn’t be fair. So instead, the free spirited archeologist would go off on her own to pick up some equipment and perhaps have a few adventures along the way.
Once she was packed and ready, all her clothes and books she would be taken stowed away neatly inside of a capsule, Enzeru took her phone from her pocket and dialed Krillin’s phone. She got the voice mail, which meant he was in the middle of something. He was likely training young monks at the temple, it was marked on the calendar that was where he would be today.
“Hey sweetie, I have to take a trip to West City and pick up some equipment. If you want to join me, you are more than welcome to do so. Love you and talk to you later.”
The woman smiled as she put away her phone. Hopefully he would join her on her journey soon. She would have to be sure to go slowly so he could catch up if he wanted to. Her trip was sure to be filled with danger and excitement, one of those things she often enjoyed sharing with him. Taking her bag from the coat rack, she slipped it over her shoulder before tossing on her cape and fastening it. It was time to be off on whatever adventure awaited her. Enzeru was ready.
